Independent Living with Elegance and Warmth

Your home at the Hermitage will offer beautiful views of our landscaped grounds and the surrounding historic neighborhood.

What does Independent Living look like?
Independent Living residents live in their own apartments at the Hermitage. They participate in as many of the activities of our retirement community as they choose. They can prepare a snack or light meal in their own kitchenettes or enjoy tasty meals in our dining room, and in general, continue with their normal routines. They keep their own cars if they like, with convenient parking spaces. And they can also use the transportation provided by The Hermitage.

Of course, all senior residents enjoy delicious meals in our beautiful dining room, housekeeping, laundry and transportation services, rehabilitation therapies (occupation, physical and speech), and access to the Medical Director.

In addition, Independent Living at The Hermitage includes a full and varied schedule of programs to allow our residents to remain engaged and socially active. Concerts, entertainment, worship services, water aerobics, shopping trips, current events, cards and board games, volunteer opportunities, crafts, painting, weaving, outings to plays and museums...all help residents maintain a healthy quality of life.

Who is best suited for an Independent Living community?
Residents who value their independence, but no longer wish to maintain a large home, are excellent candidates. Independent Living residents don’t require the full, 24-hour care of a nursing home, help with activities like maintaining their medication schedule, dressing, and bathing. But they recognize that these options may be wanted at some point down the road, so they prefer to live in a retirement community that provides a full range of services.

How does Independent Living differ from a retirement home or a nursing home?
Independent Living is a way for residents to maintain maximum independence. Unlike a nursing home, Independent Living residents maintain their own spacious apartments or suites. Unlike a retirement home, Independent Living residents at communities like The Hermitage have access to a full continuum of care, including Assisted Living and Health Care, should the need arise..
